Set Up OpenCode

These steps come from OpenCode’s documentation, and we haven’t run them ourselves yet.

Set It Up

  1. Open ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json, creating it if it isn’t there, and add this. It turns Code Mode off, so your agent calls the tools directly.

    {
      "mcp": {
        "servers": {
          "conscius": {
            "type": "remote",
            "url": "https://mcp.consci.us/mcp",
            "codemode": false
          }
        }
      }
    }
  2. Run opencode mcp list. You should see conscius connected.

This is the format for OpenCode 2. Earlier versions list servers directly under mcp, without servers or codemode.

Try It

Ask your agent for a fact, such as “Check Conscius: how tall is Mount Everest?” If a lookup comes back empty, your agent researches as usual. It’s early, so for now most answers come from open data.

Add an Account Key

Optional. Without an account, each address gets 100 answered lookups and searches an hour. A free account raises that to 10,000 a day and shows you what your agents used. Accounts and Keys has the details.

  1. Open the Console and sign up with email, Google or GitHub. On the Keys page, name a key and make it. It’s shown only once, so copy it then.

  2. Open ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json and add oauth and headers to the conscius entry, replacing YOUR_KEY. Turning oauth off tells OpenCode to use the key, not try to sign you in.

    {
      "mcp": {
        "servers": {
          "conscius": {
            "type": "remote",
            "url": "https://mcp.consci.us/mcp",
            "codemode": false,
            "oauth": false,
            "headers": {
              "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_KEY"
            }
          }
        }
      }
    }
  3. Run opencode mcp list. You should see conscius connected.

To keep the key out of the file, write Bearer {env:CONSCIUS_KEY} instead, and set CONSCIUS_KEY where you run OpenCode. Adding the plugin, before or after, leaves the key in place.

Add the Plugin

Optional, and it needs Node.js. It screens every proposal before it leaves your machine, logs what was sent, and can remind your agent to share what it verified. Keep the folder you clone it into, because the hooks run from there. What the plugin adds.

  1. This is for OpenCode 2.2 and later. Run these in a terminal. It also adds the server, if you haven’t.

    git clone https://github.com/conscius-labs/conscius-plugin
    node conscius-plugin/install.mjs opencode --write

The hooks were built from OpenCode’s source and haven’t been run in OpenCode yet, and the hook they rely on is marked experimental. If you try them, please tell us how it went.

Remove It

Remove the Conscius entries from ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json. If you added the plugin, also delete the clone.
