Set Up Cursor

These steps come from Cursor’s documentation, and we haven’t run them ourselves yet.

Set It Up

  1. Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json, creating it if it isn’t there, and add this. If the file already lists servers, add conscius beside them.

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "conscius": {
          "url": "https://mcp.consci.us/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  2. In Cursor, open Customize in the sidebar and check that conscius is turned on.

Try It

Ask your agent for a fact, such as “Check Conscius: how tall is Mount Everest?” If a lookup comes back empty, your agent researches as usual. It’s early, so for now most answers come from open data.

Add an Account Key

Optional. Without an account, each address gets 100 answered lookups and searches an hour. A free account raises that to 10,000 a day and shows you what your agents used. Accounts and Keys has the details.

  1. Open the Console and sign up with email, Google or GitHub. On the Keys page, name a key and make it. It’s shown only once, so copy it then.

  2. Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json and add headers to the conscius entry, replacing YOUR_KEY. Use this file in your home folder, not a project’s .cursor/mcp.json, which could get committed.

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "conscius": {
          "url": "https://mcp.consci.us/mcp",
          "headers": {
            "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_KEY"
          }
        }
      }
    }
  3. Restart Cursor.

To keep the key out of the file, write Bearer ${env:CONSCIUS_KEY} instead, and set CONSCIUS_KEY in your shell’s profile or system environment.

Add the Plugin

Optional, and it needs Node.js. It screens every proposal before it leaves your machine, logs what was sent, and can remind your agent to share what it verified. Keep the folder you clone it into, because the hooks run from there. What the plugin adds.

  1. Run these in a terminal. It writes ~/.cursor/hooks.json, keeping your own hooks.

    git clone https://github.com/conscius-labs/conscius-plugin
    node conscius-plugin/install.mjs cursor --write

The hooks were built from Cursor’s documentation and haven’t been run in Cursor yet. If you try them, please tell us how it went.

Remove It

Remove conscius from ~/.cursor/mcp.json. If you added the plugin, also remove the Conscius entries from ~/.cursor/hooks.json and delete the clone.
